Early 80s fashion trends weren’t much more cheerful than those of the late 80s. Bright oranges, deep tans and warm blacks often dominated the fashion scene in the industry. Cool, blocky shapes were also cool and dress like a tennis player became (ironically) an (even). It was a time when high visibility clothing such as polo shirts with diamond studs were all the rage, along with brightly colored socks, trainers and leggings.
The 80s fashion industry, at least the fashion wearers, seemed to take notice of what was new and worth emulating in clothing design. One of the areas that saw a lot of change in the fashion industry was denim. The 80s saw the introduction of jeans for men and women in a variety of colors. During this time, the denim industry saw the introduction of many new, low rise waist style denim that was comfortable to wear. Jeans manufacturers also began creating jackets and shirts that were made of denim which was an instant hit with the fashion-conscious younger generation. In addition, the rise of designer jeans such as those manufactured by Italian brands helped the market for jeans to expand to a greater extent.
Another area in the fashion industry that didn’t take off as quickly as the jeans would, but continues to this day, are the silk material. Silk was worn during the 80s and not just as a textile product; instead, it was a way of expressing one’s sense of style. Silk shirts, blouses and pants were always highly sought after. However, the use of silk as a textile product came to a halt during the early part of the 1990s when computers became commonplace in offices. Even so, silk remains a hot commodity among fashion-conscious women who still want to look good.
